Through the Rice Traders Forum held yesterday, potential importers learned about the new, streamlined process of importing rice in the Philippines under RA 11203 or the Rice Liberalization Act.
In his opening message, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia expressed the hope that the new law will make rice more accessible to Filipinos. “Increasing domestic supply can come from two sources: first, by increasing rice production and second, by increasing rice imports to fill in the demand gaps,” he said.
